Andrew's Answers:
While there are a number of training and development programs which deal with Emotional Intelligence, the objective of Communication Profiling in High Performance Communication is to provide managers and staff with a pragmatic and relatively simple approach for improving their communication with all types of people (especially the challenging ones).
The first step in the program is to review the method for recognising different types of communication behaviour. Based upon "assertiveness" and "responsiveness" the program provides specific details to be conscious of when someone is speaking with us (language, tone, topic, eye contact, body language, speech pattern, etc). By "making the call" about how assertive and how responsive the other person is, the course participants then learn to place people into four broad quadrants of "styles".
There is a major thrust to each of the four styles and participants are encouraged to increase their tolerance of each of these by better understanding them. In fact, the research indicates that these styles of communicating are well established by our early teens. So, the way someone reacts to us is usually more a reflection of their natural "style" than a reaction to something we have done to make them act that way.
People use behaviour habit patterns and follow a theme in their actions because that is the most efficient and comfortable way to achieve their goals and meet their needs.
